July 2: Florence.

We slept in this morning and had a bit of a mellower day which was nice after the last few days of tours.
After having some coffee at the apartment we walked over to the train terminal and bought tickets for the city sightseeing bus. It is the same bus company that we rode in Rome. The bus took us on a 2 hour tour of Florence, through town and into the hills a little. Florence is really a lovely place and the surrounding hills are studded with beautiful villas.

After our bus tour we found a market and did a little grocery shopping then went back to the apartment for an early dinner and a little rest before heading out to see the soccer game.

We walked around enjoying how beautiful Florence is in the evening while trying to find a place to see the game.
The sunset over the river was beautiful on our walk.

And romantic......

We saw this street sign on the corner of an alleyway on a little side street. Watch out for people peeking around the corner!

we ended up at a bar/park on the river with a big outdoor screen at an event which had been posted on the couchsurfing events page.

There were easily 2,000 people there of all ages.  It was a good game and Italy almost won, loosing to Germany only after double over-time and shoot outs.

Walking in Florence at night the streets were bustling with people. When we got back after midnight it seemed as if the night was just getting started for much of the city.
